Which game this map is
This is the radar in Dazed Games' How to Fish, Steam App 4001890. It is not a chart for real-world fishing, and it is not a map for a different game that uses the same words.
The two item names Radar and Boat Radar are different objects. The handheld radar is what this page describes. Boat Radar is a separate purchase on the boat.
What the radar draws
The radar UI keeps a list of main-island dots and one mini-island dot.
- It draws a main dot for each island index below the unlocked count. A new save sets that count to 2, so you already see two main islands.
- It draws the mini-island dot from the mini-island position when one is active, and hides that dot otherwise.
- A dot pings when the sweep passes it. The 1.0.10 notes removed the old X that marked where you last died. The 1.1.2 notes made the mini-island dots larger.
- This build does not publish a color legend for those dots. A green, yellow, or red reading from a fan map is not used here.
When the next dot appears
The unlocked count goes up only when you take the reward from an island-unlock quest. The quest stores the new count. It does not unlock an island because you sailed near it.
| Hand-in | Unlocked count becomes |
|---|---|
| New save, before those hand-ins | 2 |
| Giant Piranha Skeleton | 3 |
| Pufferfish Fin | 4 |
| Albatross Head | 5 |
The full order, including the beer, the leeches, and the whale, is the walkthrough. This page does not repeat those steps.
The Islet update added more mini-islands. Their dot is the separate mini-island marker. They do not replace the five main counts above.
Boat and the way home
Getting the boat is the Spider Crab Shell quest on the first island. Returning home is the end-game boat, and it stays on "No Keys" until the Whale Fin quest has marked the final boss killed. Both answers live in the walkthrough, not on a second map page.
If the next main dot is missing, the matching hand-in above has not been turned in yet. Sailing in circles does not add it.
